Well, some great leaders in colonial America owned slaves like George Washington, Patrick Henry, and many others! The articles of Confederation was a weak plan, so Congress wanted a weak, but Central plan. So, they did originally have no slavery in the Constitution, but one man said, i don't like this, and everyone had to agree for it, so they cut it out. But if the Articles of Confederation was the real, rules slavery would be no more before the Gettysburg Address.
